* Our Fair Use Bandwidth Policy Explained

Bandwidth is relatively cheap despite Australian bandwidth being some of the most expensive in the world. We host a large variety of web applications and generally, a single website does even register as a ripple in our monthly bandwidth allowances.

A general purpose website for a small to medium business of up to 30 employees would generally use 10-50GB in bandwidth per month. A small SOHO operation’s website would generally use 1-10GB in bandwidth per month.

Our Fair Use bandwidth policy is very clear if in the event your website consumes greater than 50GB per month in bandwidth or starts to operate in such a way that it is clear that it will consume 50GB in the current month we will:

1.  Immediately get in contact with you. We will have already assessed why this is the case and will have a recommendation for you. In our experience this happens in one of three cases:

a) A third party plugin or account linked to the website has been compromised such as a Facebook or LinkedIn account and is generating spam. We will need to remove the offending service from your website.
b) You have gone viral – Reddit is giving you the hug of death in which case you will need to decide if you really want to receive the 1600000 hits per day to your website. If you want the publicity we would generally suggest we spin-up a dedicated server and configure Cloudflare load-balancing for the duration of the traffic.
c) You are the victim of a DDoS attack.

2. Act in the best interest of all customers. That is, keep as many services up as possible. If your service needs to go down to keep two others up then that is what must be done.

1. We reserve the right to terminate your service in order to protect the viability of other shared services on your particular network or for any reason at all with respect to bandwidth usage.

2. This is a prepaid service, you cannot rack up a huge bill.

What happens if your service is terminated under the Fair Use Bandwidth Policy?

In the event your service must be terminated, we are acting to protect our infrastructure. As the first order of business our engineers will restrict your international inbound traffic at the upstream firewall. This means that your website will only be able to be visited by people in Australia. If your service is still generating dangerous amount of traffic the service will be completely restricted to only IP addresses in our global whitelist. You will still be able to regain access to your website to save and backup documents and your website however you will need to do so in conjunction with our support team who will whitelist your IP address temporarily. This means that only you will be able to access your website.
